Belbin team role types (Belbin, 1981) are a different way of thinking about how we perform in teams.
Instead of focusing on job titles, the team role types describe the ways in which different individuals like to work within a team.
A team requires all eight roles for success.
What if you have less than eight people in your team?
Team members can take on more than one role.
So each person in a team of four say, would fill more than one role.
What if your team lacks a particular role?
Having identified the deficiency, the team needs to develop a strategy to ensure that the role is effectively filled even though no one prefers to work in that particular role.
